Product introduction

Metallographic sandpaper is a water-resistant sandpaper designed specifically for metallographic analysis, mainly used for the preparation of metal and alloy specimens. It removes surface damage caused by cutting or processing through grinding, providing a smooth and scratch free surface for subsequent polishing and microscopic observation.

Core composition and characteristics

Abrasive
Silicon carbide (SiC): a mainstream choice with high hardness and sharp grinding, suitable for high or relatively hard materials such as steel and quenched parts.
Aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃): used for soft metals such as aluminum and copper or in scenarios that require full water cooling.
Mixed abrasive: Combining the advantages of both to meet the needs of multiple materials.
Diamond composite abrasive: for the special needs of porous/brittle materials such as ceramics and coatings.
Substrate
High strength waterproof latex paper or polyester film: Strong water resistance, supports wet grinding (water grinding), prevents abrasive embedding and sample gelatinization.
Thickened latex paper: reduces curling, improves flatness, and adapts to high-precision grinding.
Manufacturing process
Electrostatic sand planting: The abrasive particles are evenly and vertically distributed, with sharp and durable grinding, suitable for P80-P2000 particle size.
Coating process: The abrasive adheres smoothly, with fine scratches after grinding, suitable for high-precision grinding of P2400 and above.
Adhesive backing design
No backing adhesive: It needs to be fixed on the polished aluminum disc with clamps.
Self adhesive backing/transparent PET backing/iron disk magnetic backing: convenient and fast loading and unloading, solving the problem of edge curling when encountering water.

Usage tips

Wet grinding priority: Water grinding can dissipate heat, prevent abrasive embedding, and reduce sample gelatinization.
Gradual progression: Use in the order of coarse grinding, medium grinding, fine grinding, and fine grinding to avoid scratches and residues caused by crossing levels.
Strength control: Apply light pressure and grind slowly to prevent material deformation or rapid sandpaper wear caused by overheating.
Timely replacement: When the grinding effect of sandpaper decreases sharply, it needs to be replaced to avoid damage to the sample caused by increased rolling effect.
